Module 1

HABC is the fastest growing Awarding Body in the UK. HABC are recognised by Ofqual, Welsh Government, CCEA and SQA to award accredited Food Safety, Health and Safety, HACCP, First Aid, Licensing, Security (SIA), Fire Safety and Teaching qualifications in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Qualification Overview:

The level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is a qualification intended for learners working in any environment and those who are returning to work or starting work for the first time.

Learners gaining this qualification will know that Health and Safety is the responsibility of everyone within a business, including contractors, visitors and suppliers.

Outcome of this Qualification

This qualification provides the opportunities for learners to develop competence in key skills and produce evidence towards attaining key skills. The qualification does not ensure key skills are met as this would depend upon learners producing a a portfolio of evidence and the mode of study adopted.

Qualification Structure

This qualification is made up of one unit, the details of which are provided in the next section.Learners must successfully complete the assessment for the unit to achieve the qualification.

What Does The Qualification Covers

The qualification covers the following elements:

  • Accidents.
  • Slips, trips and falls.
  • Protective Clothing.
  • Fire.
  • Electricity.
  • Manual Handling.
  • Work at Height.
  • Work Equipment.
  • Workplace and Welfare.
  • Safety Signs.
  • COSHH.
  • First Aid.
  • Display Screen Equipment.

What is the Duration of the Training?

The one days Class Room Training + Multiple-Choice Examination.

How the qualification is Assessed?

This qualification is assessed through a 15-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 30 minutes.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 10 out of 15.

Module 2

L2 FIRE & SAFETY

Outcome of this Qualification?

This qualification provides the opportunities for learners to develop competence in key skills and produce evidence towards attaining key skills. The qualification does not ensure key skills are met as this would depend upon learners producing a portfolio of evidence and the mode of study adopted.

What Does The Qualification Covers?

Unit 1: Fire Safety Principles

The learning outcomes are:

  1. Understand the hazards and risk associated with fire in the workplace.
  2. Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace.
  3. Understand the principles and practice of fire safety management at work.
  4. Understand the role of the nominated fire warden.

What is the Duration of the Training?

The Two days Class Room Training + Multiple-Choice Examination.

How the qualification is Assessed?

This qualification is assessed through a 30 question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 60 minutes.

Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30.

Module 3

HABC L3 – Health & Safety

Outcome of this Qualification?

This qualification provides the opportunities for learners to develop competence in key skills and produce evidence towards attaining key skills. The qualification does not ensure key skills are met as this would depend upon learners producing a a portfolio of evidence and the mode of study adopted.

What Does The Qualification Covers?

Unit 1: Health and Safety in the Workplace

The learning outcomes are:

  1. Understand the requirements for health, safety and welfare in the workplace.
  2. Understand the benefits of suing a safety management system.
  3. Understand the principles of risk assessment.
  4. Understand the risks and control methods for common workplace hazards.

What is the Duration of the Training?

The Five days Class Room Training + Multiple-Choice Examination.

How the qualification is Assessed?

This qualification is assessed through a 60-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 120 minutes.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 40 out of 60. Learners will achieve a Merit at 50/60.

Module 4

HABC L4 – Health & Safety

What Does The Qualification Covers?

Unit 1: Health and Safety in the Workplace

The learning outcomes are:

  1. Understand the duties and responsibilities of employers, employees and others in relation to health and safety at work.
  2. Understand the process by which health and safety is managed in an organisation.
  3. Understand procedures for developing and implementing risk assessment.
  4. Understand procedures for developing and implementing safe systems of work.
  5. Know how to review health and safety across an organization.

What is the Duration of the Training?

The Five days Class Room Training + Test.

How the qualification is Assessed?

This qualification is assessed in two parts.

Part 1:

Center set and marked assessment of 2 sections. Learners are expected to undertake the following activities:

Section 1: Undertake a risk assessment.

Section 2: Construct a safe system of work.

This part of the assessment will be subjected to external moderation by HABC after being initially marked by the Nominated Tutor.

Part 1 must be sent to HABC at the same time as the examination paperwork is returned in order for the assessment to be processed.

Part 2:

Examination consists of 2 sections with a total duration of 2.5 hours.

Section 1 contains 30 multiple-choice questions. Total marks available in this section are 30.

Section 2 contains 6 longer written questions from which the learner answers 4 of their choice. Total marks available in this section are 70.

Marks from both sections will be added together to determine the delegates grade. Delegate will achieve a Pass at 60% overall, a Merit at 70% and a Distinction at 80%.
